SAFR adds second FFD in 2009.
Shooters’ Alliance for Firearm Rights (SAFR) will be sponsoring its first Family Firearm Day (FFD) in the Flint area on January 11, 2009. The event will be held at Advanced Ranges, Inc, located at 1096 N Center Road in Burton, Michigan. SAFR’s Family Firearm Day is a free event which provides individual shooting instruction and practice to the public in a controlled environment. This one-on-one shooting instruction is provided to both children and adults who have little or no shooting experience. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and liability releases signed for each shooter. Eye and ear protection is required and provided. There are a variety of activities for attendees besides the shooting instruction, including NRA’s Eddie Eagle instruction for kids, prize drawings, demonstrations and displays of sporting and shooting related topics. Lunch is provided at no charge to everyone who attends. Each child also receives a "goodie" bag. Advanced Ranges, Inc is a new business to Burton, and opened in October 2008. The owners have graciously offered their facilities for FFD to promote shooting sports for area families. Advanced has an indoor interactive archery range, indoor air rifle ranges and handgun ranges. Annual memberships are available, or non-members can use the indoor ranges by the hour at very reasonable rates. There is also a retail area, members’ lounge and classrooms. Michigan Defensive Firearms Institute’s (MDFI) Steve Fisher coordinates the certified instructors who work with the shooters at FFD. Michigan Defensive Firearms Institute is a Michigan-based training company that has been providing real-world firearms training to military, law enforcement, and qualified civilians since 2001. MDFI has Certified NRA and Law Enforcement Trainers on staff who continually update their own training, to bring the most current proven techniques in the industry to their customers. They have classes available for groups or individuals, beginners or advanced training, and the website is http://www.michigantrainer.com/. Karen and Marty Knoll, from K&M Tactical Response Academy, volunteer as instructors working with the kids on the line, and will also present the NRA’s Eddie Eagle program to all children who attend. K&M Tactical Response Academy offers a variety of classes to meet the needs of the entire family, including the NRA Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program, Michigan DNR Hunter Safety Classes for kids, basic NRA classes, NRA Refuse to be a Victim, CPL classes, and the new NRA Personal Protection OUTSIDE the Home! They offer private and specialized classes, and often work with new and beginning shooters. More information is available on their website, at http://www.kmtacticalresponseacademy.com/. Shooters’ Alliance for Firearm Rights is a Michigan based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting shooting and firearm rights. SAFR has sponsored similar Family Firearm Days annually for the last four years in the Howell and Bellevue areas of Michigan. This is the first year SAFR is expanding to holding multiple FFDs per year and we are hoping the Flint event will become a popular and regular occurrence. |
